Garage Conversions Mendip is a trading name of Foundations Up Construction, a reputable construction company servicing the south west. As a company it is dedicated to making the process of converting your garage super smooth for our valued customers.
We manage everything, including the design, build and project management. We take responsibility for the whole project, from start to finish with all our staff directly employed so we do not have to rely on subcontractors. All you need to do is decorate your new space and you’re good to go.
We are the “building arm” to the popular DIY advice and help website, DIYDoctor.org.uk, which attracts over 5 million visitors each year, and has been for the last 20+years. As such your project might feature in articles on the DIY Doctor website (with your permission).
As a local family business operating in the area for many years, our team of highly qualified tradesmen are experienced in conversion and renovation work, making us the trusted supplier of garage conversions for homeowners across Bath, Mendip, West Wiltshire and the surrounding areas.
Most garage conversions require planning permission and change of consent, but you should check with the local council/building control department on to verify this. Not all garages require it but if planning is required and you have started work, or even completed the works – the local authority holds you responsible – not the builder. It pays to make sure before work starts.
Building Regulation Approval is required on every conversion and again we organise this on your behalf.
We will visit you to discuss your requirements and budget so that you will know what the project will cost before you commit yourself to any building work.
The cost will depend on the size of the build and what you are fitting. A double garage will be likely to cost more than a single garage, and a living room is likely to cost less than a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom for instance.
Heating plumbing and electrical requirements can alter the costings quite dramatically, but don’t forget we will provide you with an estimate, not just an estimate, so you will be able to make an informed decision.
We will provide you with a detailed written estimate (not just an estimate) so you know exactly what to expect and how much it will cost.
When we provide an estimate we can provide an estimate of the time it will take, and when the work can start. Once you have accepted our estimate we will discuss the timetable with you.
The timescale will depend on the size and specification of the build.
Yes it is possible to convert one half of a double garage, so that you have a new room and still retain a single garage.
We can install traditional radiators providing your current boiler is able to cope with the additional load. Alternatively you could opt for electrical heaters, or under-floor heating. All of which can supply and install, and we can make recommendations depending on your use of the new room.
Yes VAT at the current rate of 20% is payable. Anyone suggesting VAT is not payable is either fraudulent or is not on the VAT threshold for their business and so is unlikely to be an established company or Builder. See more here about finding Reliable Tradespeople from our sister Company DIY Doctor.
